Nomination Process Begins for Assam’s Lok Sabha Elections: Key Candidates and Constituencies

The Election Commission initiated the nomination process for four Lok Sabha constituencies in Assam, including Guwahati, slated for polling in the third phase. Voting in Guwahati, Barpeta, Dhubri, and Kokrajhar (ST) will occur on May 7. The notification set April 19 as the deadline for nominations, followed by scrutiny on April 20 and withdrawal by April 22. Counting of votes will coincide with the national schedule on June 4. The high-profile Guwahati seat witnesses BJP’s Bijuli Kalita Medhi against Congress’ Mira Barthakur Goswami. In Barpeta, AGP’s Phani Bhusan Choudhury competes with Congress’ Deep Bayan and CPI (M)’s Manoranjan Talukdar. Dhubri sees Congress’ Rakibul Hussain challenging AIUDF’s Badruddin Ajmal and AGP’s Zabed Islam. UPPL nominates Joyanta Basumatary for Kokrajhar against Congress’ Garjan Mushahary and BPF’s Kampa Borgoyary. With BJP holding nine seats and Congress three in Assam’s current Lok Sabha, alliances and new faces promise an intriguing electoral landscape.
