Northeast Government Employees Unite to Demand Restoration of Old Pension Scheme

Government employees’ organisations from across the Northeast on Sunday formed a joint platform to demand restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS). The decision was taken at the North East Leaders’ Meet in Guwahati, attended by representatives from six northeastern states. Leaders said the move aims to oppose the NPS and ensure post-retirement security for employees. The platform resolved to launch a joint movement from February 2026 and submit memoranda to the Prime Minister, President and state chief ministers.
