NPP Candidate Pledges to Push Khasi Language Status, ILP in Parliament

National People’s Party (NPP) candidate Dr D.R.L. Nonglait has pledged to raise Meghalaya’s key regional demands in Parliament ahead of the Shillong Lok Sabha by-election. Addressing a rally in Mihmyntdu, he promised to push for Eighth Schedule recognition of the Khasi language, implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) and continuation of the ban on uranium mining in the state.

Dr Nonglait blamed poor coordination between the state government and previous MPs for delays in securing constitutional recognition for Khasi. He also opposed uranium mining in Domiasiat, stressing the importance of local public sentiment. Meanwhile, NPP State President Prestone Tynsong said the party had intensified its grassroots campaign to reach voters across the constituency.
