Opposition Leader Seeks CBI Probe Into Alleged Irregularities at Tezpur University

Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia has urged the CBI to investigate alleged financial, administrative, and statutory irregularities at Tezpur University. A Congress Legislature Party delegation submitted a memorandum to the CBI’s Anti-Corruption Branch in Guwahati, calling for an independent, time-bound probe.
Saikia clarified that he is not accusing anyone but wants an unbiased verification of claims raised by students, faculty, and staff over several years. He also referenced a recent assurance from the Ministry of Education announcing the removal of former Vice Chancellor Prof. Shambhu Nath Singh and initiation of a formal inquiry.
The memorandum requested scrutiny of procurement records, tenders, financial transactions, and missing RTI-related documents to help restore the university’s credibility.
