Opposition Seat-Sharing Rift May Cost Congress LoP Post: CM Sarma

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday said infighting among Opposition parties over seat-sharing could prevent the Congress from securing the Leader of the Opposition post after the Assam Assembly elections. He claimed Congress may fall short of the required 24 seats due to concessions to allies like Raijor Dal and AJP, leaving it with around 16 seats. Sarma added that winning enough indigenous-dominated constituencies would be difficult. Meanwhile, BJP has completed internal candidate selection at block and constituency levels, even as Opposition talks remain unresolved.
