Over 1.65 Lakh Illegal Immigrants Detected in Assam, 30,100 Deported

The Assam Legislative Assembly was informed on Wednesday that 1,65,531 illegal immigrants have been identified in Assam under Assam Accord norms, with 30,115 deported so far. Of the total, 32,870 arrived between 1966 and 1971, while 1,32,661 came after 1971. The Assam Accord, signed in 1985, mandates the detection and deportation of foreigners arriving after March 25, 1971.

Implementation of Assam Accord Minister Atul Bora said 52 out of 67 recommendations from the Justice Biplab Kumar Sharma Committee report will be implemented. He added that 228.54 km of the India-Bangladesh border fencing is complete.

The Union Government has stopped funding under the Border Area Development Programme since 2022-23, Bora informed the Assembly.
