Over 500 Assam 108 Ambulance Workers Fired as Strike Enters Day Four

The strike by Assam’s 108 emergency ambulance workers entered its fourth day on Thursday, with protests intensifying after more than 500 employees were terminated. Workers staged a shirtless demonstration in Guwahati, alleging government neglect and demanding fair wages, regularisation of jobs, and overtime pay.

EMRI Green Health Services, the service operator, dismissed the employees for “insubordination” and disrupting essential services. Protesters claimed the terminations were abrupt and unjust, vowing to continue the agitation until their demands are met.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma earlier warned that striking workers risked dismissal and replacement if they did not resume duty. Partial ambulance operations are being maintained with temporary staff.
