Partha Sarathi Mahanta Appointed New Commissioner of Police for Guwahati

The Assam police department has undergone a reshuffle with IPS officer Partha Sarathi Mahanta appointed as the new Commissioner of Police for Guwahati. Mahanta, a 1999 batch officer, brings extensive experience and a proven track record in policing. He replaces Diganta Barah in the key role. Before this, Mahanta served as Joint Commissioner of Police in Guwahati, where he led crime control and intelligence operations. Recently promoted to Inspector General of Police, Mahanta’s appointment is seen as a natural progression. He is expected to enhance public safety, improve crime prevention, and strengthen community engagement in the city.
