PM Modi Accuses Congress of Enabling Infiltration in Assam for Votes

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday accused the Congress of allowing unchecked infiltration in Assam during its rule, alleging that illegal immigrants encroached on land, forests, and wildlife corridors, harming the state’s culture, ecology, and job prospects. Speaking at Kaliabor after launching the Kaziranga Elevated Corridor project and flagging off two Amrit Bharat trains, he said the BJP government was protecting Assam’s identity by evicting illegal occupants. Modi linked Assam’s development to the progress of the Northeast and claimed recent election results showed public support for good governance. He also highlighted conservation efforts at Kaziranga, noting zero rhino poaching in 2025. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma backed the project, criticised the Congress leadership, and said evictions and the corridor were essential for cultural preservation and development.
