Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary Conducts 2025 Asian Water Bird Census

The 2025 Asian Water Bird Census at Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary observed over 10,000 birds, including notable migratory species like Baikal Teal, Tufted Duck, and Bar-headed Goose. Conducted by 22 experts across nine water bodies in collaboration with Aaranyak and the Assam Bird Monitoring Network, the survey highlighted the sanctuary’s rich avian diversity. This census follows a similar survey at Deepor Beel, where 12,245 birds from 105 species were recorded. Experts emphasize the need for long-term data to assess trends in bird populations.
