Police Crack Down on Illegal Cattle Smuggling Ahead of Christmas in Assam

With Christmas approaching, illegal cattle smuggling has reportedly increased across Assam, prompting intensified action by police. Trucks carrying cattle from Upper and Central Assam districts were allegedly moving daily via Jagiroad on NH-27 towards Meghalaya.

Over the past ten days, Jagiroad and Nellie police rescued 64 cattle in multiple operations and arrested five smugglers. Three cases have also been registered to probe the racket.

Jagiroad Sub-Divisional Police Officer Bijit Dadharai said strict action is underway and patrols will continue during the festive season. Police have urged the public to share information to help curb illegal cattle transportation.
