Police Officer Critically Injured During Anti-Drug Raid Near Assam-Manipur Border

A police raid against drug trafficking near the Assam-Manipur border turned violent after suspected smugglers opened fire on security personnel in the Joypur-Jirighat border area on Tuesday night.

Havaldar Sharif Hossain Kazi sustained two bullet injuries, including one in the abdomen, and was later airlifted from Silchar to Guwahati for advanced treatment.

Police said the accused fled into nearby forest areas after the encounter. Security forces, including Assam Rifles, have launched a massive search operation in the sensitive border region, known for frequent drug trafficking activities.
