Policeman Accused of Bribery in Assam’s Digboi

Despite the Assam government’s efforts to combat corruption, incidents involving law enforcement persist. In Digboi, locals reported a case of bribery involving a policeman in the No. 1 Borbil area of the National Highway. The officer, identified as Sukapha Chetia, was allegedly seen extorting money from a vehicle transporting cattle.

According to sources, the vehicle’s driver admitted to paying the officer Rs. 400. The locals confronted Chetia, accusing him of bribery, which he denied. Subsequently, other police officers arrived and took Chetia to the police station for further investigation.
