Potato Farmers’ Protest Chokes Sadiya Road Over Price Crisis

A protest by potato farmers on Monday disrupted traffic for over three hours on the Sadiya main road in Sadiya, as cultivators demanded fair prices and a proper market system. Farmers dumped large quantities of potatoes at 8 Mile Tiniali, bringing vehicular movement to a halt.
The protesters said rising input costs and falling market prices have pushed them into losses, with seed potatoes costing about ₹60 per kg while sale prices have dropped to ₹7 per kg. They also alleged that inflow of low-quality potatoes from other states has hurt local farmers and sought a dedicated farmers’ market in Tinsukia.
After submitting a memorandum to the sub-divisional administration, the farmers temporarily called off the protest but warned of intensified agitation if their demands are not met.
