Pregnant Woman’s Death Sparks Protest at Deamoolie Tea Estate
A pregnant woman, Bharati Tanti, died en route to hospital after failing to get timely ambulance support at Deamoolie Tea Estate near Doomdooma. Her stillborn baby and death triggered late-night protests by tea garden workers, who blamed the estate’s lack of ambulance facilities. Protesters alleged prior maternity deaths due to similar negligence. Locals demanded labour department action, while ACMS warned of agitation if workers’ rights continue to be ignored.
