Protest Erupts in Chungajan Over ‘Niuland District’ Gate, Road Blockade Planned

Tensions rose along the Assam–Nagaland border after residents of Chungajan protested against a gate allegedly installed by authorities of Niuland district at Nabamilanpur village.
Locals claim the gate, bearing the name “Niuland district,” is an attempt to assert territorial control inside Assam. Protesters burned tyres and raised slogans, accusing the government of failing to act despite earlier memorandums and protests.
Protest leader Dipen Gogoi warned that residents will block roads connecting Chungajan to Dimapur for 12 hours on March 7 (6 am–6 pm) if the gate is not removed. Essential services such as ambulances and school transport will be allowed.
He also warned that if authorities fail to remove the structure, local residents may dismantle the gate themselves.
