Protests Continue in Lakhimpur Against Prepaid Smart Meters

Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) and Nari Mukti Sangram Samiti protested against prepaid smart meters in Lakhimpur on Thursday. Members rallied through North Lakhimpur town, chanting slogans against smart meters and the Assam government. They submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister, accusing APDCL of overcharging through smart meters and contractors of using threats to force installations. The groups demanded action against contractors, a stop to excessive tariffs, refunds for overcharges, and the return of old meters. They threatened to intensify protests if demands are unmet.
