Protests Erupt in Manipur Over Transfer of Kamjong SP Tholu Rocky

Kamjong: Protests have been reported following the Manipur government’s decision to transfer Superintendent of Police Tholu Rocky to the Manipur Police Training College (MPTC) on October 18, 2026. IPS officer Jay Barange has been appointed to take charge as SP-in-charge. The transfer came a day after an armed attack in Chassad village left one civilian dead and four others injured.

Naga civil society organisations and women protesters have criticised the transfer, alleging that it was influenced by political pressure. MLA Leishiyo Keishing also opposed the decision, while Kuki organisations have called for scrutiny of the security lapses. The developments have intensified tensions, with calls for transparency and accountability from the state government.
