Rabha Groups Hold Torch Rally Demanding Sixth Schedule Status

Rabha organisations held a massive torchlight rally in Boko on Saturday demanding inclusion of the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council under the Sixth Schedule. Thousands participated, accusing the government of neglecting the long-pending demand since 2003.

Protests have been ongoing in Kamrup and Goalpara for two months, and a dharna is planned at Jantar Mantar on December 12. Leaders warned they may intensify agitation and field their own candidates in upcoming elections if the demand remains unmet.
