Rabha Organisations Stage Protest in Delhi Seeking Sixth Schedule Status

Members of the All Rabha Students’ Union, All Rabha Women Council and the Sixth Schedule Demand Committee held a two-hour demonstration at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi, demanding inclusion of the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council (RHAC) under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.
The protesters, wearing traditional Rabha attire, raised slogans for constitutional protection of indigenous people in the RHAC region. A memorandum outlining long-pending demands and concerns was submitted to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, urging a tripartite dialogue with the Centre and the Assam government.
Around 500 people participated in the protest. Rabha organisations said their agitation would continue until Sixth Schedule status is granted to RHAC.
