Rajdhani–Elephant Collision Disrupts Train Services in Assam

Train services in Assam were disrupted on Saturday after the Sairang–New Delhi Rajdhani Express hit a herd of elephants in Hojai district, killing seven and injuring one. Five coaches and the engine derailed, though no passengers were hurt.
Following the accident, Northeast Frontier Railway cancelled nine trains, regulated 13, and short-terminated two services. Restoration work is underway, with senior railway officials at the site.
Forest officials suspect heavy fog as a possible cause. Autopsies of the dead elephants are in progress, treatment is ongoing for the injured one, and legal formalities are being followed. Passengers were safely adjusted, and the train resumed its journey to Guwahati without the derailed coaches.
