Reliance SMART Fined for Overcharging Beyond MRP in Guwahati

The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Kamrup (Guwahati), directed Reliance SMART to pay Rs. 13,500 for charging more than the MRP. Complainant Mehboobar Rahman discovered that Reliance SMART charged Rs. 80.75 for a 500g packet of Mantra Organic Sugar, though the MRP was Rs. 75. Reliance blamed a system error, but the commission ruled it as an unfair trade practice. The case was resolved through the National Lok Adalat, with the fine imposed for wrongful profit.
