Rising Human–Elephant Conflict Alarms Assam–Arunachal Border

A series of deaths and property losses along the Assam–Arunachal Pradesh border has highlighted growing human–elephant conflict driven by shrinking habitats. Recent incidents in Lakhimpur district include a woman losing her home to a wild elephant and a man killed while trying to drive one away. Conservationists blame habitat fragmentation, deforestation, and blocked migration corridors for frequent elephant intrusions into villages. Experts warn that without coordinated inter-state action to restore corridors, losses to both humans and endangered Asian elephants will continue.
