Road Work in Biswanath Sparks Outrage Over Damage to Ahom-Era Heritage Sites

Construction of a four-lane road from Biswanath to Gohpur has allegedly damaged Ahom-era heritage sites. The Assam Tea Tribes Students’ Union demanded an investigation and halt to further excavation near Pratapgarh Tea Estate. Locals criticized the destruction of historic forts and raised safety concerns after excavation caused accidents. Over 13,000 trees have already been felled, worsening public anger.
