Rupee Recovers After RBI Measures, but Long-Term Stability Remains Uncertain

MUMBAI: The Indian rupee has recovered following measures by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to ease pressure on the currency, including meeting oil companies’ dollar requirements and restricting speculative positions in the foreign exchange market. However, experts caution that the recovery may be temporary, as crude oil prices, foreign investment outflows and inflation continue to influence the rupee’s performance.
The RBI’s currency-support measures have also coincided with rising government bond yields, with the 10-year yield reportedly reaching 7.37%. Wealthy.in’s Head of Products and Research, Niharika Tripathi, advised investors to avoid making sudden portfolio changes based on short-term currency movements. She highlighted diversification and shorter-duration debt investments as options to consider, depending on individual risk tolerance and investment goals.
