Saikia Opposes Demolition, Seeks Restoration of Historic Dikhow Bridge
Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia has urged CM Himanta Biswa Sarma to restore the 1935 British-era vertical-lift bridge over the Dikhow river in Sivasagar. Saikia opposed calls for its demolition, citing its historical and tourism value. He recommended a fresh PWD survey, heritage evaluation by ICOMOS and the archaeology directorate, and its declaration as a protected monument. He also proposed restoration and beautification with government or UNESCO support.
