Sarma Urges ‘Illegal Immigrants’ Not to Vote BJP, Sparks Political Row

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, campaigning in West Bengal, stirred controversy by urging alleged illegal immigrants, especially from Bangladesh, not to vote for the BJP. He claimed Indian Muslims are supporting the party and reiterated plans to implement the “Assam model” if BJP comes to power.

Sarma also highlighted development goals for north Bengal, focusing on industry, agriculture, and tourism, while expressing confidence in a major BJP victory.

The remarks drew strong criticism from All India Trinamool Congress, which filed a complaint with the Election Commission of India, accusing him of making divisive and unverified statements. Political tensions continue to rise ahead of the Assembly elections.
