SBI Assures Customers Funds Are Safe After Data Breach Exposes 3,897 Records

The State Bank of India (SBI) on Friday assured customers that their account balances and funds remain safe following a cyber incident in which 3,897 customer records were reportedly exposed on the dark web. The bank said it had individually notified affected customers through email and/or WhatsApp after identifying personal information in the exposed data.

The leaked information reportedly included names, mobile numbers, email and residential addresses, dates of birth and banking-related identifiers. SBI has activated its cyber incident response measures and engaged an independent CERT-In-empanelled cybersecurity agency to investigate the breach. The bank also urged customers never to share their OTPs, PINs or passwords and to remain alert to suspicious calls, messages and emails.
