Section 144 is enforced in Guwahati near Deepor Beel

Since Deepor Beel is a protected area, community fishing is prohibited in the vicinity by imposing Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, which was enforced by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, West Guwahati Police District. The directive will remain in force until January 31st.

The DCP also brought up the worries expressed by the Guwahati Wildlife Division’s Divisional Forest Officer, who expressed concern that on January 7, 2024, and even after, some residents of the villages surrounding and bordering the Deepor Beel Wildlife Sanctuary, including Keotpara, Mikirpara, Paspara, Azara, and Tetelia, along with residents of various outlying areas of Guwahati City, were likely to venture outside to organise community fishing.
