Seven Elephants Killed as Rajdhani Express Hits Herd in Assam’s Hojai

At least seven elephants were killed and one injured after the Sairang–New Delhi Rajdhani Express hit a herd in Assam’s Hojai district early Saturday, derailing the engine and five coaches. No passengers were injured.
The accident occurred around 2.17 am near Changjurai village, possibly due to heavy fog, officials said. The collision took place in the Jamunamukh–Kampur section under the Lumding division, which is not a designated elephant corridor.
The Northeast Frontier Railway activated helplines, diverted trains, and began restoration work. Passengers were accommodated and the train resumed movement towards Guwahati with arrangements to add coaches later.
