Severe Water Crisis in Guwahati Affects 23,000 Households

Guwahati is facing a severe water crisis, affecting 23,000 households due to a disruption in the water supply from the JICA-assisted South Central Guwahati project since August 29. The issue arose during interconnection work on the main pipeline, aimed at expanding the project to 15,000 new households. Although partial water supply has resumed in some areas, many residents continue to struggle, forced to buy water at high prices. The Guwahati Metropolitan Drinking Water and Sewage Board expects full restoration by Tuesday after resolving technical issues.
