SFI Demands Probe into Financial Irregularities at Gauhati University

The Assam unit of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) has condemned alleged financial irregularities in a special grant given to Gauhati University. The students’ body linked Vice-Chancellor Dr. Nani Gopal Mahanta to the issue and demanded a high-level investigation by the Assam governor. SFI alleged that Rs 1 crore sanctioned for the South East Asian Study Centre in 2016-17 was mismanaged, bypassing financial guidelines. Funds were allegedly diverted to a non-auditable examination account, raising concerns of fraud. The students’ body has called for an immediate probe to ensure accountability and transparency.
