Sikkim Launches Power Sector Development Project
The Sikkim Power Department inaugurated the Power Sector Development Project at Samman Bhawan, aiming to modernize the state’s electricity distribution and enhance renewable energy integration.
Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang highlighted the project’s role in improving electricity quality, reducing losses, and supporting sustainable economic growth. The $186 million initiative, funded by an ADB loan and state contributions, aligns with India’s RDSS goals.
Officials emphasized its importance for reliable power supply, climate-proof infrastructure, and achieving Sikkim’s Net Zero target. The project is a cornerstone of the state’s “Bi-Pa-Sa” development focus on electricity, water, and roads.
