SIT Criticized for Weak Chargesheet in Assam APSC Scam
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has faced criticism in court for submitting a weak chargesheet in the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) cash-for-job scam. The Special Judge’s Court expressed dissatisfaction with the SIT’s investigation, holding Deputy Chief IPS Prateek Thube accountable for incomplete records. The court directed the SIT to conduct a more detailed probe.
Despite filing an additional chargesheet against four accused, the court only accepted those of APS officer Sukanya Das and Nagaon Tax Superintendent Waheeda Begum. Further investigation was ordered into former APSC chief controller Nanda Babu Singh and recruitment officer Rakesh Das. The court also questioned why 18 other suspended gazetted officers were not included in the chargesheet, expecting a written explanation from the SIT chief.
