SIT Probe into Pakistani National’s Role May Hit Congress Hard: Assam CM
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma told the State Assembly on Thursday that the probe into Pakistani national Ali Sheikh’s activities could have serious consequences for the Congress party. An SIT has been formed to investigate Sheikh’s alleged disruptive comments on India’s internal affairs and his alleged links to Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi.
Sarma revealed that Sheikh, who claims to be a climate change activist, visited India 18 times since 2011. He warned of significant political impacts once the investigation findings are presented in August.
On the APSC cash-for-job scam, Sarma questioned why Gaurav Gogoi remained silent on the Justice (Retd) BK Sarma Commission’s report, which implicated his late father, former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi.
Sarma also highlighted Assam’s progress in GDP growth, aiming to surpass Punjab by 2029, and the state’s achievements in reducing Infant and Maternal Mortality Rates.
