Situation in Bangladesh a Security Concern for Assam: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday said the worsening situation in neighbouring Bangladesh, particularly rising attacks on minorities, is a serious concern for Assam and could have security implications for the state. He urged vigilance and said the presence of jihadi elements and possible sleeper cells in Assam cannot be ruled out.
His remarks come amid reports of recent killings of Hindu traders in Bangladesh and as central agencies intensify action against extremist networks in the Northeast. Speaking in Bokakhat, Sarma also distributed financial assistance under the MMUA scheme, stating that 16 lakh women have already benefited and the initiative could significantly boost Assam’s rural economy.
