Sivasagar Congress Protests Renaming of MGNREGA as VB GRAM-G

The Sivasagar District Congress Committee has opposed the Centre’s move to rename MGNREGA as the Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act (VB GRAM-G). At a press meet in Demow on Saturday, district president Ajay Kumar Gogoi accused the BJP-led government of trying to dismantle MGNREGA.

He alleged that the new framework would deprive labourers of 100 days of guaranteed employment and allow the Centre to control implementation across states. Gogoi also claimed there was an attempt to shift execution to the gaon sabha, undermining the existing employment guarantee system.
