Six Northeast States Pledge Tap Water for All Rural Homes by March 2026
Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura have committed to providing tap water to all rural households by March 2026 under the Jal Jeevan Mission. Assam has covered 81.32%, Manipur 79.59%, Meghalaya 81.76%, Nagaland 92.69%, and Tripura 84.95% of rural homes so far. The Centre launched the Jal Jeevan Mission in 2019 with a Rs 3.60 lakh crore outlay to ensure tap water access to all rural households. Currently, 79.81% of India’s 19.36 crore rural homes have tap water.
