Six-Year-Old Girl Raped, Murdered in Bokajan; Suspect Shot During Escape Attempt

A six-year-old girl was allegedly raped and murdered by Ranjit Basumatary in Bokajan, Karbi Anglong. The victim, daughter of Suraj and Sunita Purty, went missing Monday. Her body was found Tuesday in a well, with signs of strangulation. Locals apprehended Ranjit in a forest, and he was handed to police. He attempted to escape custody, was shot in the leg, and is now receiving medical treatment.
