Solar-Powered Fence to Combat Tiger Threat in Kaliabor

In response to stray tigers causing havoc in Kaliabor, the Assam Forest Department will erect a 7-km solar-powered fence. The initiative, announced by Minister Keshav Mahanta, aims to reduce human-animal conflicts. The fence will cover areas around Kaliabar tea garden, Kamakhya Hill, and Hatimura, with the first 5 km being built in phase one and another 2 km in phase two.

Efforts to trap the tigers using cages and tranquilizers have been ongoing, but the cats have avoided capture so far. The tigers, believed to have wandered from Kaziranga, have killed over 40 animals in nearby villages.
