Sonowal Slams Congress Over MGNREGA, Highlights Modi Government’s Welfare Push

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday criticised the Congress for failing to implement MGNREGA sincerely, alleging delays, corruption, and misuse for political gains. He said poverty alleviation under Congress rule remained limited to slogans.

Sonowal asserted that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, governance has focused on transparency, accountability, and inclusive development since 2014. He highlighted achievements such as Jan Dhan Yojana, which brought over 60 crore people into the banking system, and direct benefit transfers reaching nearly 25 crore beneficiaries.

He stressed that rural development is key to India’s progress and said improved infrastructure and financial inclusion have strengthened dignity and confidence among the poor. Sonowal also spoke about the proposed Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rojgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin), saying it would improve upon MGNREGA by providing 125 days of guaranteed work with timely wage payments.
