Sony Mobile Ordered to Compensate Guwahati Customer After Nine Years
Nine years after purchasing a mobile handset, Guwahati-based Nina Bairagi has been directed by the Kamrup district Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission to be compensated by Sony Mobile. Bairagi bought a Rs 52,990 phone in 2015, which stopped working within a month. Sony’s authorized service center demanded an additional Rs 25,000 for a replacement, which she declined. After receiving no response from Sony’s New Delhi office, Bairagi filed a complaint through the Consumers Legal Protection Forum in 2016. The commission ordered Sony Mobile to fix the phone and pay Rs 40,000 with 10% interest and Rs 10,000 litigation costs within 45 days. Failure to comply will result in a 12% interest penalty.
