State Tightens Aadhaar Verification Amid Fake Document Concerns

The state government has issued strict SOPs to address illegal migrants using fake documents for Aadhaar registration. A new “State Government Portal” software ensures physical document verification before Aadhaar issuance for residents above 18 years.

Key measures include:

  • Document verification by Circle Officers within 30 days.
  • Monitoring by Additional District Commissioners at the district level.
  • Aadhaar approval only for applicants meeting residency criteria per Aadhaar Act guidelines.

Applications of those not applying for NRC will be rejected, while Central Government employees require additional residence verification. District Commissioners will oversee fortnightly reviews and conduct random checks.
