Supreme Court Bars Assam From Fresh Teacher Appointments Under Provincialisation

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has directed the Assam government and education authorities to stop appointments or absorption of teachers under the provincialisation scheme until further orders. The direction came while hearing a PIL challenging the constitutional validity of the scheme.

The petitioners argued that the system allows entry into government service without a fair and competitive recruitment process. The court has issued notices to the Centre and Assam government, with the matter to be considered further.
