Supreme Court Clarifies It Has Not Ruled on Modified Voter Registration Form 6

The Supreme Court on Monday clarified that it had neither approved nor rejected the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) modified Form 6 for new voter registration. A bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant stated that the revised form was not before the court when it delivered its judgment in the Bihar Special Intensive Revision (SIR) case.
The modified form requires new voter applicants to disclose whether they or their parents were included in the previous SIR, triggering political controversy over its legality and implementation. The court cautioned against selectively interpreting its observations, while the ECI’s changes have also drawn allegations of procedural irregularities, which the BJP has disputed.
