Supreme Court to Hear Plea for NRC Re-Verification in Assam

The Supreme Court has agreed to hear a petition by former Assam NRC coordinator Hitesh Dev Sarma, seeking a complete re-verification of the 2019 NRC list. The plea alleges large-scale errors, inclusion of ineligible persons, and exclusion of genuine citizens. A bench of Justices PS Narasimha and Atul Chandurkar issued notices to the Centre, Assam government, current NRC coordinator, and Registrar General of India, seeking their responses before the next hearing.
