Supreme Court to Hear Shyamkanu Mahanta’s Bail Plea in Zubeen Garg Case

The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the bail plea of Shyamkanu Mahanta, one of the prime accused in the case related to the death of singer Zubeen Garg in Singapore in 2025. Mahanta, who was arrested in October 2025, has challenged the Gauhati High Court’s May 29 decision denying him bail. The apex court had earlier sought the Assam government’s response to his plea.
Mahanta is among seven accused in the case, with a fast-track court framing murder charges against four, including him. The accused have denied the allegations, while the trial is underway with witness evidence being recorded. The case stems from Garg’s death during a yacht outing in Singapore, which was declared accidental by Singapore authorities, while Assam’s investigation led to a separate criminal case.
