Survey Delay Leaves 187 Assam NC Villages Without Land Rights

Guwahati: The incomplete survey of 187 non-cadastral (NC) villages in Assam has delayed land rights for thousands of residents. The Revenue and Disaster Management Department has cited forest boundaries, inter-district disputes and inter-state border issues as major reasons for the delay.

Assam has 1,074 NC villages, with Dhemaji having the highest number of unsurveyed villages at 50, followed by Kamrup with 45 and Cachar with 28. The government has prioritised completing the surveys, which are necessary for preparing village maps, granting land pattas and eventually recognising the settlements as revenue villages.
