Suspected Poacher Killed in Kaziranga Gunfight

A suspected poacher was shot dead during a gunfight with forest guards in Assam’s Kaziranga National Park early Wednesday. Acting on intelligence inputs, guards from the Burapahar Range confronted armed poachers near Maite Tapu around 2:50 am. The poachers opened fire, prompting the guards to retaliate. One poacher was killed, while others escaped. A .303 rifle and a bag were recovered. Search operations are ongoing. This is the second such encounter in Kaziranga this year, following a similar incident on May 28.
