Swedish Couple Adopts Special Needs Girl from Assam Orphanage

A three-year-old girl with special needs, Ishika, from a Jorhat orphanage in Assam, was adopted by a childless Swedish couple on Tuesday. Ishika’s mother had placed her in the orphanage shortly after birth. The couple found her through international adoption websites and applied via India’s “Mission Vatsayal” scheme. At a ceremony in Jorhat Abar Bhawan, attended by local officials and MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi, Ishika was handed over to the couple. They will soon take her to Sweden, where she will start a new life.
